Craniosacral Therapy

CranioSacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, hands-on approach that releases tensions deep in the body to relieve pain and dysfunction and improve whole-body health and performance. This therapy releases restrictions in the soft tissues that surround the central nervous system.

Interesting enough, few structures have as much influence over the body’s ability to function properly as the brain and spinal cord do that make up the central nervous system. The central nervous system is heavily influenced by the craniosacral system (the membranes and fluid that surround, protect and nourish the brain and spinal cord).

Cupping Therapy

Cupping therapy was first discussed in old medical textbooks in the Western World and was described as a medical practice that was used by Egyptians. There have also been accounts of Hippocrates using the Cupping for internal disease. Fire Cupping has also been practiced throughout Europe, Asia, and Africa. Cupping therapy is an alternative form of medicine and is perhaps better known in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).

Cupping therapy offers several advantages including aiding in promoting blood flow and increase blood circulation to muscles and tissue, supplies oxygen to cells, loosens knots, and can release and drain excess fluids and toxins. Cupping is one of the best deep-tissue therapies available. It is thought to affect tissues up to four inches deep from the external skin. Toxins can be released, blockages can be cleared, and veins and arteries can be refreshed within these four inches of affected materials.

This treatment is also valuable for the lungs, and can clear congestion from a common cold or help to control a person’s asthma. In fact, respiratory conditions are one of the most common maladies that cupping is used to relieve. Three thousand years ago, in the earliest Chinese documentation of cupping, it was recommended for the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis.

Gua Sha

Gua sha is a healing modality of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Sometimes called ‘spooning or scraping’, There are several theories that may explain why this ancient technique works: Gua Sha increases blood flow (microcirculation) in the soft tissue, stimulating the body’s natural pain-relieving systems.

Pain, both acute and chronic, is the most common indication for Gua Sha. In Traditional Chinese medicine (TCM), pain is oftentimes caused by the stagnation of blood in the local area of discomfort. Gua Sha has the ability to break up this stagnation, to promote the smooth flow of blood in the area, thereby relieving pain.

While Gua Sha is most commonly used to treat pain, it can also be utilized to address conditions such as asthma, bronchitis, colds, flu, fever, heatstroke, fibromyalgia, strains, sprains, and muscle spasms.
