Why I love the little goji berry

Goji’s may be little but oh are they mighty! A hand full a day is all that is needed for the intense goodness the body absorbs and uses for all kinds of health benefits.

The goji berry is an “adaptogen,” a term used in the world of medicinal plants to describe a substance with a combination of therapeutic actions on the human body. An adaptogen invigorates and strengthens the system while helping the body to deal more easily with stress by supporting the adrenal glands.

Goji berries are perhaps the most nutritionally rich berry-fruit on the planet. They taste amazing and are well-balanced for nearly all body types, blood types and metabolisms. They are a complete protein source and contain 19 different amino acids and all 8 essential amino acids. These berries can contain 21 or more trace minerals as well as vitamin B1, B2, B6 and vitamin E.

One area that got me particularly excited about the goji berry is that it is the only food known to help stimulate the human body (particularly the pituitary and pineal glands) to produce more HGH naturally. As we age, we produce less and less Human Growth Hormone (HGH). Decreasing levels of HGH have been linked to symptoms of aging. This factor along makes the goji berry perhaps the world’s greatest anti-aging superfood.

Enhancing libido and sexual function is a growing crisis in our developed world. Goji berries are traditionally regarded as a strong sexual tonic. In addition they act as a general tonic to improve overall stamina, mood and well-being while decreasing the impact of stress on the body. All these benefits together help you to have a healthier, richer sex life.

The goji berry is one of the riches sources of the antioxidant, carotenoids (contain more beta-carotene then carrots). Antioxidants protect our DNA from free radical damage. DNA damage opens the door to every imaginable illness and accelerates aging.

This berry also has 2 key antioxidants for healthy vision: zeaxanthin and lutein. These antioxidants concentrate at the center of the retina and protect the eye from the most common causes of age related loss of sight, including macular degeneration, cataracts and diabetic retinopathy.

Goji berries are renowned for their ability to improve the immune system and protect cells from genetic mutation. Research indicates that goji’s contain germanium which has been demonstrated to have cancer-fighting properties. Organic germanium is effective in treating cervical cancer, liver cancer, lung cancer, testicular cancer, and uterine cancer based on Japanese studies.

Goji’s also help our bodies product choline which combats free-radical damage linked to neurological degeneration and Alzheimer’s disease.

These berries fight narrowing of the arteries that deliver oxygen and nutrients to our cells and combat a key factor that causes heart disease: oxidizes cholesterol.

There is so much more information on goji berries and how amazing they are for the body. I eat about a handful a day on gluten free oatmeal or adding to organic nut mix. Soaking them in water is a great way to get the beneficial properties into the body as well. I will post a delicious lemon drink infused with goji berries on my feed.

Buy organic always and can be found in dried, powder, juice and of course freshly picked.
